This recent off season has been very tough for GM Mark Wendling of the Werewolves of London. The Werewolves made it to the finals in an effort to secure back to back Hobey Cups, but it was not meant to be.
Although signing and releasing players is an everyday occurrence in the HBMHL, a major decision that the GM must make is fast approaching. During the off season goaltender Manny Fernandez blew out his knee and is expected not to play this season. Fernandez and Wendling go back to Wendling owning the team in Alaska. In 2000 GM Wendling selected a young goaltender in the second round. The following year London selected Fernandez from the Winter Hawks, after he moved from Alaska in the expansion year. London has then had either Manny Fernandez or Manny Legace playing goal for the majority of the games for the Werewolves.
Recently GM -Wendling released Marc Denis, and purchased well travelled Chris Osgood. With only 2 years left on Fernandez's contract, will Wendling buy it out or is Osgood a one season fix it situation? Blowing outa knee could be career threatening.
For the first time in seven years, the main guy in net for GM-Wendling will likely not be a man named Manny.
