London (CP) - The Werewolves of London have made two very interesting draft picks in the first three rounds of this year's draft. With the Werewolves winning the Canadian Conference last season, they picked very late in the rounds. Their first selection was smallish defenseman Tobias Enstrom. General Manager Mark Wendling made the statement on Enstrom. "He is an excellent defenseman who can play both sides of the puck. He is a bit small being just under six feet tall, but he is something else on quarterbacking a power play, can jump into the rush. We really like his speed, he reminds me of a waterbug, he just never quits."
The second round brought in what some members of the scouting community have suggested is a linebacker on skates. Dustin Byfuglien is listed at six foot three inches, and just under 250 pounds. "This kid is all muscle. He is currently a defenseman, but we may try using him as a power forward. We believe he does have the foot speed, and from what limited opportunity in close from what we have seen we like his hands. There maybe some real opportunity with this kid."
Both players are expected to stay up with London this season. London in the past rarely has had new draftees stay up, but based on the roster and the needs this year, it appears they both may stick.
The Werewolves also placed veterans Ville Peltonen and Gary Roberts on waivers to give them their unconditional release. As well, the paperwork to provide Manny Fernandez on waivers was also given to the league prior to the deadline today. "I hate this part of my job. These guys have been good to us, but we just do not project any of them in our roster this year, or in the case of Manny, there is no way with his injury. We wish these guys the best to catch on elsewhere," stated GM Wendling at the news conference today.
