Toronto gets D and O in RND 1 of Entry Draft

Toronto, ON). The Toronto Wolfpack were proud to select top defensive prospect Marc Staal with the 16th overall selection in the HBMHL Entry Draft. Staal is a stay at home defender with good wheels and defensvie prowess. GM Tom Welch had this to say about the new Wolfpack addition, " we are pleased to be able to select Marc with the 16th selection. We had Marc tabbed in the top 10 of this draft so for him to slip to 16 was a pleasant surprise."

In the last selection in the 1st round, Toronto also picked up smooth passing center iceman David Krejci. Krejci is projected as a scoring 2nd or 3rd line center for the Wolfpack and brings much needed offensive potential to the team. Welch said," David gives us another dimension offensively and we hope to have him in Toronto in the next year or two. He has great vision and hockey sense for a young up and coming player. We look forward to his progression through our system." Toronto is poised to add further depth to their team on Day 2 of the draft with an additional 5 selections in round 2 and 3. The team is looking for NHL caliber talent that can progress into the Wolfpack rotation in the next year or two.

Toronto hopes to also augment a solid roster during the upcoming UFA period but admits that the pool of high end players is less than usual. Welch said," we may dip our foot in the "pool" but I don't expect to dive in too deeply. We are a rebuilding squad".
