Toronto, ON). Toronto mired in a current losing streak and going 4-6 in the last ten made a trade to beef up the current roster. The trade was between division rivals as the London Werewolves were the trading partner this time. Toronto sent three prospects in David Clarkson, Rob Schremp, and a 2012 3rd round draft choice to London for offensive defenseman Marek Zidlicky and checker Greg Campbell. This is Campbell's second tour of duty with Toronto as he had a cup of coffee with the team in 2008.
GM Thom Welch said, " this year has been a struggle but we continue to make moves to strengthen the club. We feel that Marek will enhance our powerplay and his puck moving skills are unmatched. Greg Campbell is starting to come into his own as a formidable checker that can chip in some goals. Losing Clarkson is tough as he probably has a bright future, Schremp was developing slowly in the minors but may blossom but we have more depth at center from recent deals. We wish them well in London."
The current Toronto roster may be too offensive for prolonged success. This move is risky as Zidlicky is weak on the defensive end. It remains to be seen if this deal will pay dividends however not much was removed from the current roster and the addition of Zidlicky and Campbell should strengthen the club.
