Werewolves Streak ends at 20: London Not So Giggy With It

London (CP) - The Quebec Revolution led by goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere finally handed the Werewolves of London their first lost of the season 4-1 at the London Ice House. "Its over, the record is now at 20 for some other team to beat, and now we can pay attention to the entire season instead of the streak" stated coach Don Cherry. "Giguere had a great game, and was named first star of the game for a reason. He stopped us cold on 6 powerplay opportunities, and we could only get one by him all night. He is an all star goalie for a reason." Cherry was asked if it was a mistake starting back up goalie Manny Fernandez. "Not at all, Fernandez did not lose this game for us, Giguere won it hands done for them." Cherry was questioned about the injury sustained by Marian Gaborik. "He tweaked his knee in the first period so we took him out, and he will not be going to Vancouver, as a precaution he can stay home and keep Wade Redden company and they should both be back for the game against Alberta".
Cherry was asked if the injuries to Gaborik and Redden were the cause of the first loss."Absolutely not, as I have said over and over Giguere won that game for Quebec, and he deserved it. If anyone here figured we were going to go the entire season without losing they are nuts. In every sport with a lengthy schedule teams lose games, only in football is it realistic, and even then it is a long shot at best."
GM and owner Mark Wendling was also at the news conference. Wendling was asked about rumours circulating with regards to a possible trade with Winnipeg. "No there is nothing in the works at all, Pete was the first guy to give us a call to congratulate us on the streak, we joked that had they not beaten the Bears tonight we would have mirrored records. I told him that we were an expansion team 5 years ago, we have a cup and now this streak, and continuously get snubbed for league awards, but to go out and win the cup faster than us or the Toronto Wolfpack did and ram it down the throats of the owners that are giving him a hard time."
"The streak was overshadowing the team, the fans, the league, now we can go on and keep playing and work towards making the playoffs. This is a great team accomplishment, a great team record, we will enjoy it today, and try and start a new streak tomorrow." Wendling told the news conference.
In other news, the Werewolves are rumoured to be looking for some top draft picks in the upcoming draft. It is persisting that the 'Wolves have their eyes on someone they consider a franchise player, and would like to obtain a pick that will be in the lottery, and take their chances there, but with the way the team has performed, there is a real reluctance to break it up.
