Toronto continues revamp with Volchenkov addition..

Toronto replaced the departed Henrik Tallinder with up and coming blueliner Anton Volchenkov.

We inquired with LA GM Jeff Meyerhoff about his availability and he indicated that he was not on the market. Aggressively we asked for a "what would it take offer". He returned with the steep price tag of prospect Latendresse and two second round picks. Toronto GM Tom Welch said, "we needed a defensive presence with the recent deal with Boston, and we feel Anton will continue to improve and round out his game, as well as play top defensive minutes for our team." Volchenkov is an accomplished shot blocker that adds another dimension to the Wolfpack defensive schemes. Welch said, "Anton projects as a possible top pair defenseman with Klesla or Bieksa, we are very happy with this acquisition".

Toronto visits 14-3-3 powerhouse New England tonight but unfortunately, the newly acquired Volchenkov is out with a minor tweaked groin but is projected back in 7-10 days. The Pack will have to attack the New England vaunted offense without this defensive stalwart. I am sure GM Rob Dumont is liking his chances at home against Toronto.
