Chicago, IL). The Chicago Snow Cats are building a new squad through the draft according to GM Thom Welch. "We had some big contracts expiring this year from stars like Ovechkin, Bergeron, and Backstrom. We dealt Patrice and Nik last season to pick up assets for the future and now let Alex go into free agency. Unfortunately, it never happened for Alex in Toronto or Chicago, we wish him well wherever he lands."
The 2017 entry draft has given the team hope with solid defenseman Josh Morrissey projected to land a top 6 role with our club and several other promising prospects including Adrian Kempe, Jake Dotchin, Pontus Aberg, and Yanni Goude. In addition, the 4th and 5th round picks will add more potential depth to the Snow Cats.

As far as free agency goes, the Cats will look to add to the current squad and may look to bring back Bergeron or Backstrom as #1 center to go with solid center RNH and Bellemare. Our defense looks solid with veterans and youth, but the forward mix needs to be bolstered. With Chara and Boychuk the backend should be responsible and support Bishop night in and night out.

The team look is about to change significantly with the advent of free agency and a current payroll hovering at only $30m. The word of the day is compete at all costs.
