Toronto acquires Frans Nielsen and Roman Polak from Alberta Rams.

Toronto, ON). Today Toronto traded promising winger Ville Leino, Marek Zidlicky, Pavel Kubina, and team captain Mike Modano and cash considerations to the Alberta Rams for Frans Nielsen, Roman Polak, Patrick O'Sullivan, and $500K cash. The deal exchanges 7 bodies and significant payroll between the two clubs. The move saves Toronto considerable payroll and acquire two pieces for the future in Nielsen and Polak.

GM Thom Welch said, " we did this deal to get Frans Nielsen primarily, he is a defensive forward with upside that will fit nicely into our lineup going forward. Polak has potential to play top 4 minutes on the club and the cash we hope will help keep us out of the red at the end of the year. O'Sullivan will be a depth forward for us, and we save significant payroll for this year and next. Leino has a bright future and we will miss team captain Mike Modano, but this deal has future written all over it."

The trade changes the defensive core signficantly in Toronto as Kubina and Zidlicky were playing Top 6 minutes. Now Polak, Randy Jones, Mark Stuart and Ruslan Salei will be depended on to fill in our bottom six.

The Wolfpack roster seems set for the duration, minor tweaks may occur near the trade deadline, but overall this roster is set until off season.
