Toronto, ON). Toronto picked up some grit and attitude with a trade yesterday of forwards. Toronto sent enigmatic forward Wojtek Wolski to the Notre Dame Hounds for pestering all-around forward Steve Ott and a 3rd round draft choice in 2012. The deal exchanges personalties as Wolski is more of a perimeter player with scoring upside and Ott has an in your face style second to none.
GM Thom Welch said, "we have coveted Steve Ott for some time and his aggressive playing style when he was with St. Louis Browns. He plays a solid checking game and can chip in on the offensive side of the puck. Wojtek is a project and did not prove a good fit on the Wolfpack. We wish him well in Notre Dame." Ott is projected to play top minutes for the Wolfpack and is flexible to play LW or RW. The Wolfpack also picked up a 3rd round draft choice in 2012 as Wolski's contract has three more years on it. The deal also saves Toronto financially as Ott is making 1/3 of what Wolski's contract demands.
As a result of this deal, Toronto has backed out of the rumored signing of pugilist Shawn Thornton. As Ott picks up his fair share of PIM's, the Wolfpack braintrust must have deemed that signing too risky with the potential of the team spending too much time on the PK.
