London (CP) The Werewolves of London have started another season flying out of the gates. "We are very pleased with our start this season. After the disappointment in the cup final, sometimes teams just roll over, our team just came out flying," stated Mark Wendling the GM of the Werewolves.
The team is void of a star player, as of today there is not one player in any top ten statistic of the league, with the exception of winning percentage. "We are a team, no one player is above any others. For us to win, we all have to give it our best, and we are proud of that." The Werewolves currently have 9 players on pace to score over 20 goals, and could soon have a tenth as Brendan Shannahan is now playing with an injury Ryan Smyth, and has two goals in three games including the game winner against the Lumberjacks.
"We are so proud of what the team is accomplishing, that being said we do not have a lot of room to manouver. Our salary is about 10 million more than we would like it to be, and because of that we need to go deep into the playoffs. Fortunately these guys want to bring the Cup back to London, and we are getting a tremendous effort from them all."
One of the biggest surprises is second round draft pick Dennis Byfuglien. The rookie has ten goals already into the season, which is amazing because of the ice time he receives. "This kid is something else. He is a fourth line grinder, but on the power play he plays defense for us, and he has 5 powerplay goals already. He is definately a great find. Our scouting staff found us an excellent player who can do it all, and he is huge!!!"
Wendling also added, "There is a ton of hockey to play, and we won't surprise any team now. They are gunning for us, so we have to get better. These guys are committed, and I am committed to help get the right players so they can be successful."
