(New York, NY) The Highlanders made a curious move today, shipping two-way winger Brian Rolston to Toronto in exchange for Teemu Selanne, Manny Malhotra and prospect Nigel Dawes. The teams also exchanged draft picks in the 2010 draft. Curious, because the Highlanders already have one of the more porous defenses in the league.
Team spokesman Alan Eagleson noted that the Highlanders were "willing to take a chance on Selanne", who has had ongoing knee problems since the off-season. A free agent at the end of the season, the Highlanders think Selanne will fit into the free-wheeling offensive system played by the Highlanders, and help the third line find more consistent scoring.
