Rams & Lumberjacks Swap 10

(Calgary Herald)
Calgary, AB, Canada

Canada West Division rivals Alberta & Edmonton saw GMs Poelker & Euler swap 10 players and two draft picks Tuesday on the heels of the Rams' deal with the Mobsters.

Going north to Edmonton are centreman Legwand, winger Ponikarovsky, blueliners Orpik & Ranger along with Alberta's 2nd rounder in 2011.

Coming south to the Rams and the city of Calgary are centreman Cullen, centreman/left winger Brendan Morrison, right winger Dvorak, blueliners Kubina, Frantisek Kaberle and Wallin along with Edmonton's 4th rounder in the 2011 HB entry Draft.

So the end result is actually 12 players total with 2 more coming to the organizations in about two and a half years time.
The Lumberjacks get 4 players who will help them for several years while the Rams basically get help for the rest of this season in their quest for the Canada West Division title. It will be a hard row to hoe, though, in overcoming the Jackals of Vancouver.
The game in Vancouver yesterday, which saw the newly acquired Ilya Kovalchuk arrive in time for the game, ended in a 2-2 tie. Not exactly what GM Poelker of the Rams had hoped for. A win in the 4 point contest would certainly have made the GM easier to be around.
"Sheesh" Poelker was heard to say, "I go out and get Queeneville what he asks for and all he can get me is a stinking tie with Vancouver. Oh well, it's better than a loss. If Coach Q doesn't close the gap on Vancouver signicantly in the next few weeks after this deal with Edmonton on the heels of the deal with Montreal, well, let's just say the ice might be getting a little thin under him." Kovalchuk did dent the twine in his first game as a Ram to tie the score 1-1 early in the game with helpers going to linemates Arnott and Hossa. His scoring did lighten the disappointment of the tie somewhat.
The two deals in two days saw a total of 7 Rams' players leave the organization along with 3 second rounders and $6 million of the organization's money.
Coming into the organization are 7 players and one draft pick.
It better be a semi successful season come the end of the season for the organization or GM Poelker may also find himself on thin with his business partners!
