Toronto, ON). The Toronto Wolfpack continue to reform the roster in a push for a stronger team. Today Toronto shipped solid defender Jaroslav Spacek and two 2nd round picks to Suffolk for sniper Teemu Selanne, top four defender Niklas Kronwall, and Anti Miettinen.
The deal seems to be a steal for Toronto but comes with some concerns. Selanne has an injury history and comes with a huge 1-year $7m salary. GM Tom Welch said, " we had the opportunity to upgrade our roster for this year and felt we had to make this deal. The additional salary is a concern but we will attempt to adjust our payroll as needed to compensate for his salary. I would expect another deal or two to bring us more in line with the rest of the league."
Selanne is projected as a top special teams player for Toronto taking a place on the woeful Toronto powerplay. He will likely play with Zetterberg and Nash on the top unit. Kronwall is seen as a future stud defender for Toronto. He will see minutes on both the powerplay and penalty kill, although may be eased into the lineup by Coach O'Reilly. O'Reilly said, " we have a solid top six D but we will find time for Niklas, he is a special talent."
Toronto plays division rival Montreal tomorrow. Selanne and Kronwall hope to be in the lineup for this critical division matchup.
