Long-time Highlander Guerin dealt to St. Louis

(New York) Bill Guerin, who has spent all but two seasons in the HBMHL in the grey and red of the New York Highlanders, was dealt two weeks ago to the St. Louis Browns in the deal that also saw New York ship Daniel Briere and Ryan Whitney in exchange for Jason Spezza, Zbynek Michalek and Ruslan Salei (reporter's note: an attempted hibernation delayed this article).

Guerin played over 600 games for the Highlanders, and ranked 2nd in team history in virtually every statistical category, but had been a healthy scratch every game this season and requested a trade.

"I loved my time in New York, and it was great to be part of both Cup-winning teams, but I felt like I had something left to contribute," said Guerin, who has put up three goals and six points since joining the Browns.

A Highlanders spokesperson commented that they wanted to oblige Guerin's request, and worked him into a deal that had been in the works with the Browns management team, who recently all quit their jobs.

"Spezza is obviously a tremendous talent and we're happy to have him join the team, as well as Michalek and Salei," noted Highlanders head coach Kirk Muller. "We just have no clue how to pronounce Z-b-y-n-e-k. We're fairly certain there's a vowel or two missing."
