Bouwmeester's Stay in Las Vegas is Short-Lived

After getting picked up in the offseason by Las Vegas, Jay Bouwmeester is now headed for San Jose in exchange for two draft picks on the eve of the regular season puck drop.  GM Bobby Brooks had this to say regarding the precarious move.

"The Hitmen had every intention of making J-Bo a central part of the defense over the next few years. We turned down a hefty RFA compensation package to retain his rights, but the recent addition of PK Subban created a log-jam on the right side.  Ultimately, the young guys need the experience and we felt Subban was ready to make a significant contribution right away.  At some point you have to throw them in the deep end and let them sink or swim. Bouwmeester is a fantastic player, but he wasn't going to get the kind of ice time that he deserves. We have little doubt that he'll flourish in San Jose."

In other news, Jose Theodore is hoping he can play a larger role in the final years of his contract, but with Pekka Rinna and Jhonas Enroth on the roster it's looking unlikely to happen in Las Vegas.  His recent play and salary-friendly contract could make him an appealing option for another team, but goalie-play has been strong around the league so his options might be limited.  If a move isn't made over the next few days, he might have to wait until the end of the season before he gets his wish.
