Minor Meals for the Sharks

The HB trade deadline is less than a week away, but New England have made their moves early.

First, New England sent goaltender Manny Legace to Edmonton in exchange for 500k.  GM Curt Euler was in search of immediate help due to the devestating injuries to his current starters and Legace seemed like a good fit to band-aid the situation.  Unfortuantely, Legace himself was injured for 10 days in his first game and some are wondering if he was prepared for the role.  GM Bobby Brooks went on record to say that Legace was fit and ready to play, but rumors are circulating about Legace's work habits.

In the second deal, the Sharks acquired promising young prospect Nick Spaling from London.  New England sent the 3rd round pick they received in the Chris Kelly deal, along with a 5th round pick and goaltender Justin Peters.   Peters will remain in New England for the remainder of the season as an emergency call up, but his future development will continue in London.   GM Mark Wendling should have little trouble putting those picks to good use given his recent track record.

Nick Spaling is a good case in point.  He was labeled "Mr Irrelevant" after London management chose him dead last in the 2010 entry draft, but he has worked hard and managed to put together an impressive season in the minors.  His role next year will likely be as a reserve player, but if he can continue his solid defensive and penalty killing play in the preseason he could become a surprise piece of the puzzle going forward.
