Platoon Planning Parade

The Platoon made great strides last year in re-shaping the franchise. Not only did they achieve their stated goals of reaching the play offs and gaining financial stability, but they enter the 2010-2011 HBMHL Season with depth at every position. For the first time in franchise history, they were able to browse the Unrestricted Free Agent market without the need to possibly overpay a player just to plug a hole in the line up.

"We were looking for high value players as we always do", commented GM Morrison. "This year we have the luxury of both having cap space available within our budget and no significant gaps in our line up. There were a couple of players we liked so we were active, just not desperate as in years past. We coveted a strong PK guy but couldn't afford to make him our highest paid player so we got outbid. We did pick up a couple of guys that we think can play some minutes for us and we got a couple of guys that we think can play for us in future. Ownership expects us to go deep in the play offs this year and I have been given the green light financially to make that a reality. I think the guys we have on board now can get us there, but I am always willing to make changes that will improve our club. I am absolutely thrilled with the job Gunney and his staff are doing in keeping the guys playing to their potential."

"We were surprised and delighted to pick up Evander Kane at the 9-spot. We think this kid is going to be great once he gets some meat on his bones. I am counting on Dick to fatten him up and Gunney to toughen him up. A year in the minors will do him good. We grabbed Cody Franson in the 2nd Round and think he has a great future with the club too. We like his size and hockey sense but he needs some seasoning so he`ll go with Evander down to the Brigade in Burnaby."

"Having some financial success has put us in the position to be more competitive. The move to the Armory has really helped turn things around. We plan on making some of the improvements that have been promised too, starting this year by adding plumbing to the washrooms and getting rid of those Honey Pots in the parking lot. Down the road we may take the benches out and add seats with seat-backs, but that completely depends on the Trailblazers upgrading their seats back at The Rose Garden as planned."
