Portland Platoon Crying Fowl

The Portland Platoon were incensed yesterday evening when they witnessed the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL wearing copies of Portland's as yet-to-be-seen camouflage jerseys for their warm up session at last nights Ducks-Penquins contest.

"The NHL has a policy that a team cannot wear a new jersey in a league game without having provided a years notice to the league of their intent to do so. Anaheim deliberately chose to upstage us by showing OUR jerseys in their venue, before our home opener," groused Portland GM Morrison. "This just proves how successful our league is in marketing our product, that other leagues choose to copy us." It is reported that Portland has asked HBMHL officials to review the incident and consider legal action against the NHL and Anaheim Ducks for copyright infringement.

In other news, it has been announced that Ryan Whitney has joined the Platoon as the "future considerations" in the deal that saw Bryce Salvador and Ben Guite shipped off to New England. Ryan was apparently excited to join the Platoon until he saw the bunkhouse at the Armory and heard about the two-a-days led by Gunney.

There promise to be a bunch of new faces within the Platoon this year as Hedjuk, Salo, Modry, Seidenberg, Begin, Weaver and Toivenen received Honorable Discharges when their contracts expired, while Tucker, Kapanen and Vishnevski received Dishonorables and have had their contracts bought out. In addition, Restricted Free Agents Belanger and Auld are in limbo as they test the RFa waters. That opens up a lot of spots in the line up while GM Morrison has about $11M to spend within the team-imposed spending cap.
