Toronto, ON). Toronto netminder Vesa Toskala has risen through the ranks in Wolfpack training camp to backup netminder status and today GM Thom Welch recognized his recent signing's strong work and moved Marty Turco in a trade with St. Louis Browns. This trade was also made for financial reasons. Looking at the bottom line, Turco was scheduled to make starting netminder money but working as a backup. Recently signed Toskala has performed well in training camp and allowed Toronto to make this move.
The deal also sent a 2010 #2 round draft choice, and three prospects to St. Louis for defensive defenseman Mark Fistric and journeyman goalie Andrew Raycroft. The deal reduces some of the competition in camp and provides Toronto with a shutdown d-man that can be used against some of the more offensive clubs in the HBMHL.
