Toronto, ON). Today Toronto acquired veteran goalie Marty Turco, Nicholai Zherdev, and Radek Dvorak from the Alberta Rams for Paul Kariya, young stopper Peter Budaj, and two 2nd round selections. Toronto's focus in the deal was Zherdev who projects as a long term top 6 forward for the Wolfpack.

Tom Welch said, "we have pursued Zherdev since his time in Montreal and approached Alberta about a possible deal. We understand this deal is more of a future deal, but we think Nic can replace most of Paul's offense, and also fits into our long term scheme much better. Adding Turco gives us a veteran backup for the next couple years supporting Evgeny in net. Radek will get time on the PK and will provide additional depth on an affordable contract. This deal came together quickly and should benefit both teams both short term and long term.
Alberta picks up 2 valuable draft choices for the future to bolster the Ram roster. Meanwhile Toronto continues to add key pieces to the lineup for now and the future.
Today Toronto and New England fought a hard battle to a 4-4 tie. Nabakov was sensational with 44 saves in the tie effort. Newly acquired Frolov for New England was kept off the score sheet but was worked to the bone for 21 solid minutes. I guess Coach Clark doesn't know the concept of a slow break-in...go figure.
Toronto gets no breaks going forward as the Wolfpack travel to league powerhouse Suffolk Fox tomorrow. The team expects to have Zherdev and Dvorak in uniform. Suffolk continues their torrid pace of wins with the streak currently at 23. Toronto has a tremendous test ahead of them as does the rest of the league going forward against this All-Star Fox roster.
