Toronto, Ontario. This week Toronto completed a major swap of talent sending premier forwards D. Alfredsson and D. Briere to New York for slick passing center Brad Richards, sniper Jonathan Cheechoo, Michel Ouellet, Jay McClement, and two draft picks. The deal provides a very good return to Toronto to remain competitive but also provides more favorable contracts and future potential with the addition of a 1st and 2nd round draft picks.
GM Tom Welch had this to add, " we have tried to compete with the upper teams in the league but have failed to end up on the positive side of most contests. Therefore, we feel this deal should keep us fairly competitive for a playoff spot, but also ensures a good future with players signed long term and two high draft picks. We wish the two Dan's well in the future except when they play the Pack. They both are solid contributors that will be missed on and off the ice.

Coach O'Reilly was not available for comment but was rumored to be quite upset at losing his assistant captains during the critical stretch drive. The team appears shaken by the deal as they went on to be shallacked by London in an 8-2 drubbing the following night.
