The Denver Spurs have sold Jonathan Toews to the Edmonton Lumberjacks.GM Curt Euler called yesterday and offered $2 Million. Spurs management decided to take it.
When contacted for comment, Spurs' GM Poelker said, "Well, we weren't winning this year. That's no secret, and the books were spewing red ink. There really wasn't much choice. While we appreciate everything Jonathan did in helping lead the franchise since being signed as a free agent to a three year deal we could not pass up Curt's offer. Jonathan was in the last year of his contract and will be a UFA at season's end. We weren't planning to drop the franchise tag on him as that is reserved for Captain Steven Stamkos who has been with the organization since being drafted number 1 overall in 2009. This will go a long ways towards righting the books and maybe Jonathan will help Curt and his Lumberjacks upset the balance in the Canada West Division. He is in a battle for the Division with perennial favorite Vancouver and Winnipeg."

With the departure of Toews, Matt Duchene has been elevated to the #2 center position.
For now Duchene will have Blake Comeau & Jason Chimera on his wings. This could change, of course, depending upon performance.
A side note pertaining to Toews is that he had the only 50 goal season of his HB career in the 2015-16 season with the Spurs which was the first year of his $24 Million dollar deal. In his 2+ seasons with the Spurs, Toews appeared in 214 games scoring 88 goals with 85 assists for a total of 173 points. He was a +57 in the 214 games.
