Las Vegas Among Busy Teams at Deadline

The Las Vegas Hitmen have been one of the most active teams ever since new ownership has been in place and the 2011/2012 HB trade deadline was no different.

On Tuesday evening, Las Vegas sent their 2011 2nd round pick, Johnas Enroth, to Montreal in exchange for another 2nd round pick in 2012.  When a guy like Pekka Rinne is starting every game it's hard to imagine Enroth challenging for playing time over the next couple of seasons.  Compounding the problem was the recent acquisition of Semyon Varlamov.  By shipping Johnas to Montreal, the promising young netminder could have a better chance to develop his game in the coming seasons.

Late Wednesday, with less than an hour to go before the trade deadline, Montreal and Las Vegas hooked up again on another deal. The Hitmen sent three million cold cash dollars along with a 3rd round pick in exchange for Patric Hornqvist. The move was a no-brainer given the lack of scoring throughout the Hitmen lineup.  Hornqvist's age and contract were a perfect fit for the long-term plans in Nevada.  He couldn't make it town in time for the Thursday practice, but he has been penciled in alongside Duchene and Stewart for Friday's game in Denver.

Rumors about Las Vegas's finances have began to surface given their recent spending spree, but GM Bobby Brooks asserts that there hasn't been any shady business going on.  The organization knows that questions will continue to be raised as long as they are playing in Sin City--especially after last month's controversy when both Alex Burmistrov and Cam Fowler were seen at some local establishments.  Neither player will turn 21 until late 2012, but club officials insist those events were sanctioned by the team.  The league took no notice and did not make any inquires.
