Hitmen Slash Payroll in Two Cost-Saving Moves

After returning to respectability last season, Las Vegas have hit a speed bump to start 2011/2012.  Many players were paid good money to come in and produce, but the result has been an 0-4 start to the year.  According to league financial records, the Hitmen's current balance sits 20th after having to pay for transfer costs/buyouts in the offseason.  This leaves the club in a dicey situation going forward if they continue to struggle.

As a result, Andrew Brunette and Douglas Murrey were shipped to Denver in exchange for Jason Garrison.  The next domino to fall was Mike Cammalleri's contract.  He was traded to Los Angeles for their 2nd round pick in 2013.  These moves cut nearly 8.5M$ in salary without compromising the core foundation of the team.

This leaves Rick Nash as the highest paid member on the roster, but GM Bobby Brooks indicated that he will remain on the team in the hopes of a turnaround.  However, there are rumblings that he could also be moved if the right deal came along.

The one thing we do know is that it's rarely boring in Nevada and the next couple of weeks will be fun to watch.
