Times a Changing....NASH bolts T-Town

Toronto, ON). Toronto is in the middle of a rebuild while keeping mainstays Ilya Kovalchuk and Martin St. Louis. Another shocking trade has the remaining Wolfpack up in arms. Rick Nash was traded to New England for Brandon Coburn and a first round draft pick, number 18 overall in 2010, and a 3rd rounder. The 3rd rounder was later traded for center Matthew Lombardi from the Saskatoon Bears.

GM Thom Welch said," By trading Rick we were able to acquire three high end players for our future. Coburn will immediately fill a top 4 position on defense, Lombardi slots in as our second line center right now, and the draft choice allowed us to select prime goaltending prospect Michael Neuvirth. Rick contributed a lot to our team over the years but we could never make the finals with him on our team. We wish him well."

In the 2010 entry draft, Toronto was able to trade out of the number one draft slot in the 2010 entry draft and still get their main target in the 3rd position, rearguard phenom Tyler Myers, and pick up Matthew Lombardi. All these moves appear to improve the depth in Toronto, but the losses of Zetterberg and Nash will surely be felt. However team management felt changes were needed. Welch said," we determined that all the changes and push made at the trade deadline last year were meaningless because we were unsuccessful in the end. These changes although difficult we feel will be the best decisions for our team long term."
