Toronto, ON). Today Toronto struck prior to the trade deadline due tomorrow making two moves to help with the final push towards the HB Cup playoffs. In separate deals, Toronto acquired All-Star defenseman Andrei Markov and checking forward Richard Park. To acquire Markov, Toronto sent Nick Foligno, a 3rd round draft choice and major off season considerations to London for Markov, prospect Andrew Ebbett, and a 4th round pick. The deal provides the Wolfpack with an all around defenseman that can score and defend.
In a separate deal, Toronto sent scoring forward Steve Sullivan and $750K to Boston for checking forward Richard Park and a 2011 #3 draft choice. The deal provides the Wolfpack with another penalty killer to go with Ian Laperierre and also chip in with a goal or two. The pick will provide the club with another asset for the future as Park's contract expires at the end of the year.
Two new pieces to the team that could prove very critical during the stretch drive. Both players could play key roles on special teams, bringing different elements to the squad. It was apparent with the acquisition of Andrew
Brunette that Sullivan was losing ice time to the better offensive forward. Nick Foligno was also finding himself on the bench too many nights as well. Both players will find more minutes at their next destination. With the trade deadline looming at midnight tomorrow, it remains to be scene whether Canadian rivals Quebec and Vancouver respond to Toronto's moves with ones of their own.
