Ryan Whitney and David Clarkson to Toronto in futures deal...

Toronto, ON). The Wolfpack today made a deal that appears curious at first glance. Top defender Fedor Tyutin was shipped to the Portland Platoon for offensive defenseman Ryan Whitney and enforcer David Clarkson. Both of these players will be reserves for the high end Wolfpack squad. However, both have tremendous upside and that is why the deal was made. Toronto coveted tough guy Clarkson who has shown the penchant to play a solid two-way game and is aggressive on the forecheck.

GM Thom Welch said, "this deal was difficult to make but while building a team for this year we have to keep an eye on the future. We see Whitney as a premier offensive defenseman for us in the next few years, and Clarkson with twenty goal upside playing a solid forechecking game. Tyutin will be missed but our recent acquisition of Chris Phillips allowed us to make this move. "

Clarkson brings more than a forecheck to his game. He has been racking up the penalty minutes the last few years with his chippy style. The Wolfpack have missed a little of this ingredient with the recent departures Sean Avery and Alexander Burrows. He will be called upon to bring his A game and heavy fists to the Canadian Conference for the playoff run.

In addition to the personnel changes Toronto picked up $750K cash considerations as the Wolfpack are taking on considerably more payroll.
