The Denver Spurs have shipped out another veteran on a 1C contract. That being blueliner Erik Johnson who had been on the trade block for quite sometime. Yes, another trade with a contender. However, this time it's with the East Division leading NY Highlanders of the American Conference. They also have the best record in the league to date.
GM Geoff Towle called with a cash offer and after a short negotiation a final figure was arrived at.
GM Poelker of the Spurs said, "we hate to see Erik go but it was time. We're glad we are able to fulfill his request of wanting to go to a contender."
Ice Chips
Johnson, who was signed as an RFA back in September 2015, was to be released upon the conclusion of his contract this season. Same as Oshie, McQuaid, Toews, Winnik & Yandle.
This appears to be the last of GM Poelker's moves this season. But you never know.
If something presents itself that can improve the future of the club he'll listen.
